DOOR JACK VAN DER VEER:
‘DÁT WAREN DE DAGEN!’ Pure nostalgie
en het kweken van emotie die binnenkomt. Rock ‘n’ Roll jeugdidool Long
ineens weer binnen.
Toen in de dagen waarin Elvis The King
was.
“That was when, that was then, I first heard him sing.
Those were the days when Elvis was The King.”
Rock ‘n’ Roll gaat gepaard met geluidsoverlast, so what the hell?!? ‘Those
were the days when Elvis was The King’.
was. En Elvis was The King.
Jeugdidolen blijven. Over zoveel dronken
THOSE WERE THE DAYS! Pure nostalgia and
the cultivation of emotion that comes inside. Rock 'n' Roll youth idol
Long Tall Ernie did it again in a formidable way just before his guilty
of it again just before his far too young death at the age of 48 age. Call
Me Old Fashioned' is the name of the album that is bursting with rock 'n'roll,
rockabilly and a few goosebump-inducing country ballads. How suddenly itit
comes back to you. Monday evening your old friend Giesbers was still here,
with whom Giesbers, with whom you have been friends since the first day
of primary school in a wooden shed on the Frans Tromplaan in Hoevelaken's
Frans Tromplaan. Memories swirl around them, and there is
laughter. You wrote rock 'n' roll history
in your own way and still to make plans for the future. Just like back
then. Back in the days when Elvis was The King. Arnie, the name of Long
Tall Ernie in everyday life, is a big deal. "That was When, that was then,
I first heard him sing. Those were the days when Elvis was The King." What
memories that are so recognisable in a beautiful country song. You remember
driving out of Arnhem with Hank The Knife beside in the Fuego, on his way
to a gig by our guitar king, while Arnie Arnie was doing the talking from
the CD player. Of course, we all know that both rock 'n' roll icons share
an unbreakable past as colleagues, friends, Shakers. Even as roommates
that the landlord didn't seem too happy about. Seemed to be too happy about.
Rock 'n' Roll involves noise pollution, so what the hell? Those were the
days when Elvis was The King'. Hank listens to the Hank listens to the
melancholic country ballad and is, critical as he has the right to be,
impressed. "Is Arnie singing this?", he asks. You confirm this, burning
You confirm this, burning with curiosity about the subsequent reaction
of the man who caused a furore with the six-string bass guitar. He doesn't
leave you in the dark for long: "He sings this Arnie makes memory lane
travel to your first 45 rpm singles, you'll be first 45 rpm singles, jukeboxes,
singers who had never heard of playback in days when stereo wasn't even
a thing. And Elvis was The King. A gem of a song that you never understood
didn't do anything commercially. Did nothing commercially. Youth idols
remain. About so many drunken stupidities as clumsy Giesbers and you, including
Sister Clivia, were still laughing on Monday night a laugh. And of Arnie
Treffers, of whom you also never forget that Shakers bassist of the
first Shakers revival gig: "How empty it will be without that tall guy
on stage", we remain fan. Just like when we first heard him sing. Those
were the days! |
