Dit was een zes-koppige groep en de muziek die ze maakten viel onder de noemer Powerpop. I wanna get married was de eerste single van de groep en werd op Hilversum 3 zeer positief ontvangen. Helaas voor de groep kwam I wanna get married nooit in de Top 40 en kwam er ook geen opvolger. Vandaar dat de groep ook weer een snelle dood stierf… I wanna get married komt uit 1980.
En dit gezelschap speelde heel aanstekelijke muziek, die ook live goed overkwam. In 1980 speelden de Cylinders in de aula van het Maasland College in Oss en daar maakten ze erg veel indruk !

De Cylinders, een zeskoppige Powerpop band uit Nederland, had een solide reputatie als live band in Nederland en België aan de zijde van bands als de Pretenders en Ultravox. Ze namen deze 45, hun eerste van drie voor het CNR label, in 1979 in de Soundpush studio's in Blaricum met Dennis Kloeth die optrad als producer. Het spel op de 45's is strak, de productie is spot on en de songs zijn extreem goed gemaakt. Het anthemische "I Wanna Get Married" drong niet diep door in het persoonlijke leven van de bandleden; tot op de dag van vandaag dragen niet meer dan twee Cylinders een trouwring dragen. De achterkant, "Looking for work" was meer profetisch: alle zes Cylinders zijn tegenwoordig stevig aan het werk, hoewel vijf van hen niet langer in de muziek business.

De Cylinders, a six piece Powerpop band from the Netherlands, had a solid reputation as a live band in the Netherlands and Belgium playing along side bands such as the Pretenders and Ultravox. They recorded this 45, their first of three for the CNR label, in 1979 at Soundpush studios, Blaricum with Dennis Kloeth acting as producer. The playing on the 45's is tight, the production is spot on and the songs are extremely well crafted. The anthemic “I Wanna Get Married” did not permeate deeply into the personal life of the band members; as of today not more than two Cylinders are wearing a wedding ring. The back side, “Looking for work” was more prophetic: all six Cylinders are nowadays firmly employed, though five of them no longer in the music business.

De afgelopen jaren was het plaatje op de tweedehandsmarkt een eigen leven gaan leiden. Op eBay werden er bedragen tot vijftig euro voor betaald. De rerelease vorig jaar deed uiteraard wel wat stof opwaaien en resulteerde onder meer in een optreden bij De Wereld Draait Door. Maar ook internationaal werd enthousiast gereageerd op de Blondie-achtige sixtiespop uit Amsterdam. Vandaar dat het Japanse poplabel Base nu een volledig album uitbrengt met historische opnames van De Cylinders. Met drie singles, de b-kanten en enkele verspreid opgenomen demo’s blijkt prima een volwaardige cd te kunnen worden gevuld. Heeft de vaderlandse muziekwereld destijds echt zo zitten slapen? Eigenlijk wel. Het debuutalbum van De Cylinders dat er nooit kwam, bevat namelijk behoorlijk wat sterke popliedjes. There Goes Freddie Mercury en We Must Pay verschenen op single, maar werden nooit op de radio gedraaid. Liedjes als Black And White, Time For Dinner, Looking For Work en Tits And Bums hadden toen een uitstekend debuutalbum kunnen vormen en maken dertig jaar later nog steeds een leuke plaat.

In recent years, the picture on the second-hand market had taken on a life of its own.  On eBay, sums of up to fifty Euros were paid for it on eBay. The re-release last year did, of course, create caused a stir and resulted in an appearance on De Wereld Draait Door. But there was also an enthusiastic international response for the Blondie-like sixties pop from Amsterdam.
That is why the Japanese pop label Base is now releasing a full album of historical recordings by the Cylinders. With three singles, the b-sides and some demos recorded in different places, it seems that a full CD can be filled perfectly. Did the Dutch music world really sleep this late? Actually, it did. The Cylinders' debut album, which never released, contains quite a few strong pop songs. There Goes Freddie Mercury and We Must Pay appeared on single, but were never played on the radio. Songs like Black And White, Time For Dinner, Looking For Work and Tits And Bums could have made an excellent debut album back then and still make an enjoyable record thirty years later.

Arnie Treffers en Tony Britnell werden, met Okkie Huysden, aangezocht om de derde single wat gepolijster te laten klinken. Ze hebben niet meegespeeld of gezongen, maar wel flink aan de knoppen gedraaid. Tony heeft ook een tekstflard geschreven van Freddie Mercury nl. "Discount shopping it can't be". (Rene Demets van de Cylinders).

Arnie Treffers and Tony Britnell, together with Okkie Huysden, were asked to make the third single sound more polished. They did not play or sing along, but they did push the buttons. Tony also wrote a fragment of the lyrics of Freddie Mercury, "Discount shopping it can't be". (Rene Demets of the Cylinders).
