| Van heinde en verre waren ze zondagmiddag
1 oktober naar sportcafé De Slag
in Hoevelaken gekomen om de legendarische band uit de zeventiger jaren
Hank the Knife & Jets
live op te zien treden, de liefhebbers van echte, onvervalste rock ’n roll.
En ze werden niet teleurgesteld. De oudgedienden
Hank The Knife
en Alfons Haket,
ofwel Alfie Muscles
uit de Long Tall Ernie
jaren, werden bijgestaan door Arnoud Holsboer,
leadzanger en gitarist, en Harry Angeneind
achter de drums. Tijdens het optreden werden eigen hits en albumsongs alsmede
hoogtepunten uit The Shakers
jaren en covers van bekende rock ‘n’ roll klassiekers vertolkt. |

LEGENDARISCH
| Het massaal toegestroomde publiek genoot met
volle teugen van het optreden van de mannen, die allemaal respectabele
leeftijden hebben. Dankzij het mooie weer kon het optreden buiten plaatsvinden,
op het buitenterras was dan ook geen plekje meer vrij. ,,Dit moeten we
toch vaker zien te organiseren”, was een veelgehoorde opmerking. Veel mensen
hadden hun camera’s en mobieltjes in de aanslag om thuis nog even na te
kunnen genieten van dit legendarische optreden, want je weet maar nooit
of dit de laatste keer is dat je deze mannen ziet spelen. |

| The massive crowd enjoyed the performance
of the men, who are all respectable ages. Thanks to the beautiful weather
the performance could take place outside, on the terrace was no longer
available. We have to organize this more often," was an frequently heard

& THE JETS IN HOEVELAKEN!

Het wordt ongetwijfeld swingen op zondagmiddag
1 oktober, want dan treedt de band van Hank the Knife van 13.30 tot 17.30
uur op in sportcafé De Slag te Hoevelaken. We kennen hem voornamelijk
uit de kleurrijke glamrock jaren zeventig. Hank The Knife was daarin aanvankelijk
bassist bij rock ‘n’ roll formatie Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers.
In 1975 brak hij internationaal door met eigen
band, Hank The Knife & The Jets. ‘Guitar King’ en ‘Stan The Gunman’
gooiden bijzonder hoge ogen op de hitlijsten. Het muzikale handelsmerk
van Hank The Knife bestaat uit het zware geluid van een zes snarige basgitaar,
die hij als sologitaar bespeelt. Het debuut langspeel album ‘The Guitar
King’ deed al op fenomenale wijze uit de doeken waar Hank en consorten
door tientallen jaren op voortborduren. Pure rock ‘n’ roll afgewisseld
door instrumentale, filmachtige, composities met de ‘six-bass’ in de hoofdrol.
Invloeden van onder andere The Shadows en Morricone zijn waarneembaar.
Door decennia van tijd blijft de Arnhemse band, met diverse wisselingen
binnen The Jets, bestaan.
MEMORABELE OPTREDENS
Periodiek worden er nieuwe singles en albums
uitgebracht, en blijft de act graag gehoord op festivals. Ook in meer kleinschalige
horeca zoals het Hoevelakense sportcafé De Slag. Hank The Knife
& The Jets koesterden al langer een binding met Hoevelaken, getuige
de optredens in het souterrain van voormalig café De Acht Stuyvers.
Ze hebben zo’n tien keer Hoevelaken op de grondvesten doen schudden, wat
mocht leiden tot de meest memorabele optredens. En zo nu weer op 1 oktober
bij Sportcafé De Slag aan de Zuiderinslag.
SUCCESSEN
Onlangs is een nieuwe samenstelling van Hank
The Knife & The Jets leven ingeblazen. Oudgedienden Hank The Knife
en Alfons Haket, ofwel Alfie Muscles uit de Long Tall Ernie jaren, worden
daarin bijgestaan door Arnoud Holsboer, leadzanger en gitarist, en Harry
Angeneind achter de drums. Tijdens het optreden worden eigen hits en albumsongs
alsmede hoogtepunten uit The Shakers jaren en covers van bekende rock ‘n’
roll klassiekers, vertolkt. Met Hank The Knife en Arnoud Holsboer als leadgitaristen
worden er tevens instrumentale nummers ten gehore gebracht, van eigen werk
tot Shadows successen van weleer.
De Hoevelakense traditie krijgt ook nog eens
door het dj werk van voormalige kroeg dj’s Richard Wernsen en Jack van
der Veer op deze dag leven ingeblazen als support-act vóór,
tussendoor en na afloop van het optreden. Jack van der Veer bestiert tevens
het management. In voornoemde bezetting treedt de band aan op zondag 1
oktober op in Sportcafé De Slag. Het optreden vangt ongeveer 13.30
uur aan. Entree is vrij.

It will undoubtedly be swinging on Sunday
afternoon, October 1, as Hank the Knife's band will perform from 1:30 to
5:30 p.m. at sports bar De Slag in Hoevelaken. We know him mainly from
the colorful glam rock seventies. Hank The Knife was initially a bass player
with rock 'n' roll formation Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers.
In 1975 he broke through internationally with
his own band, Hank The Knife & The Jets. 'Guitar King' and 'Stan The
Gunman' scored particularly high on the charts. Hank The Knife's musical
trademark consists of the heavy sound of a six-string bass guitar, which
he plays as solo guitar. The debut full-length album 'The Guitar King'
already did a phenomenal job of showcasing what Hank and consorts have
been building on through decades. Pure rock 'n' roll alternated with instrumental,
film-like, compositions with the six-bass in the leading role. Influences
of The Shadows and Morricone, among others, are perceptible. Through decades
of time, the Arnhem-based band, with various changes within The Jets, continues
to exist.
MEMORABLE PERFORMANCES
Periodically, new singles and albums are released,
and the act continues to be eagerly heard at festivals. Also in more small-scale
venues such as the Hoevelaken sports bar De Slag. Hank The Knife &
The Jets have long nurtured a connection with Hoevelaken, as evidenced
by performances in the basement of the former café De Acht Stuyvers.
They shook Hoevelaken to its foundations about ten times, which was allowed
to lead to the most memorable performances. And so now again on October
1 at Sportcafé De Slag on the Zuiderinslag.
SUCCESSES
A new line-up of Hank The Knife & The
Jets has recently been revived. Veterans Hank The Knife and Alfons Haket,
or Alfie Muscles from the Long Tall Ernie years, will be joined by Arnoud
Holsboer, lead singer and guitarist, and Harry Angeneind behind the drums.
During the performance, their own hits and album songs as well as highlights
from The Shakers years and covers of well-known rock 'n' roll classics,
will be performed. With Hank The Knife and Arnoud Holsboer as lead guitarists,
instrumental songs will also be performed, from their own work to Shadows
successes of yesteryear.
The Hoevelaken tradition is also given life
by the DJ work of former pub DJs Richard Wernsen and Jack van der Veer
on this day as a support act before, between and after the performance.
Jack van der Veer also runs the management. In the aforementioned lineup,
the band will perform on Sunday, Oct. 1, at Sportcafé De Slag. The
performance will start at approximately 1:30 p.m. Entrance is free.

furore. Nee, het Hoe- velakense publiek kocht de platen van Hank niet in
veel groter getale dan de rest van Nederland en andere landen, maar er
is door de jaren heen een onlosmakelijke band ontstaan tussen deze nationale
trots in rock ‘n’ roll en het dorp waar de dj’s op ooit jonge leeftijd
in de horeca draaiden.
Hank The Knife & The Jets hebben zo’n

We know the prior history, how Hank The Knife
left Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers in the first half of the 1970s to
start his own band, with which he broke through more than stormily in 1975
with top hits like "Guitar King" and "Stan The Gunman. The typical sound
of the six-string bass guitar wrote furor. No, the Hoevelaken audience
didn't buy Hank's records in much greater numbers than the rest of the
Netherlands and other coun- tries, but an inseparable bond has developed
over the years between this national pride in rock 'n' roll and the village
where the DJs spun in the hospitality industry at once young age.
Hank The Knife & The Jets have rocked
Hoevelaken about ten times which was allowed to lead to the most memorable
performances. And so now again on October 1 at Sportcafé De Slag
at the Zuiderinslag. Entrance is, as we are used to with sympathetic manager
Hans Root, absolutely free and the Hoevelaken tradition also gets by the
DJ work of former pub DJs Richard and Jack on this day as a support act
before, between and after the performance. A day to to look forward to.

Een terugblik van het Hank The Knife
& The Jets optreden naar het Rock Classic
Allstars evenement in Bochum, Duitsland, van gisteren met volle
bak in fantastische sfeer. Onze guitar king en consorten in topvorm voor
een uitzinnig enthousiast publiek. Hank The Knife genoot
mee: “Het was een groot succes,
wat me denken aan vroeger dagen in Duitsland, zoals onze tour met
Mud.” De organisatie wil onze nationale trots in rock
‘n’ roll terugzien, waarover meer wanneer dat spelen gaat. Come on
let’s go for the Guitar King! Naar waarschijnlijkheid
staat binnenkort Hoevelaken op stapel, waarover spoedig meer...
A recap of the Hank The Knife & The Jets
performance to the Rock Classic Allstars event in Bochum,
Ger- many, from yesterday with full house in fantastic atmosphere. Our
guitar king and consorts in top form in front of a frenzied enthusiastic
audience. Hank The Knife enjoyed along: "It was a great success, reminding
me of earlier days in Germany, like our tour with Mud." The organization
wants to see our national pride in rock 'n' roll again, about
which more when that plays. Come on let's go for the Guitar King! In all

† TON ODIJK OVERLEDEN / DIED†
| Ook wij van Hank The Knife &
The Jets hebben moeten vernemen dat Ton Odijk, sinds jaar en dag fan van
onze band en exploitant van boekingsbureau TO Artist Agency, zijn ongelijke
strijd heeft moeten opgeven en de wereld is ontvallen. Ton heeft in het
verleden t/m recente data toe tevens optredens voor onze band geboekt en
stond bekend om zijn betrokkenheid bij welzijn van artiesten. Een gemis
voor velen. Wij wensen nabestaanden, familie, vrienden en kennissen veel
sterkte toe bij dit verlies en zullen Ton zeker niet vergeten.
We of Hank The Knife & The Jets have also
had to learn that Ton Odijk, long-time fan of our band and operator of
booking agency TO Artist Agency, has had to give up his unequal battle
and has passed away to the world. Ton has also booked gigs for our band
in the past until recent dates and was known for his commitment to artist
welfare. A loss for many. We wish next of kin, family, friends and acquaintances
much strength in this loss and will certainly not forget Ton.

“It's always been said that a
person cannot return to their hometowns, but you have disproven that theory
completely and you have really made it worthwhile.” Met die woorden nam
Elvis in Memphis Tennessee afscheid van zijn thuispubliek na een wervelende
show, een jaar vóór de internationale doorbraak van onze
trots in rock ‘n’ roll Hank The Knife & The Jets. Zondag jl droeg het
Arnhemse publiek onze eigen King, ofwel ‘Guitar King’ en consorten, op
handen als de menigte in Memphis hún King deden zweven. Elvis’ woorden
werden met massale overtuiging gefundeerd. In een bomvol, zowel binnen
als buiten, Muziekcafé Atlanta aan het Staringplein van de Gelderse
hoofdstad. Reacties als ‘memorabel’, ‘onvergetelijk’, wát goed’
slingerden daarbij riant in het rond zowel tijdens als ver na het optreden.
Hank The Knife & The Jets klinken als in de glamrock jaren, toen tophits
‘Guitar King’ en ‘Stan The Gunman’ tot hoogste regionen van hitlijsten
reikten. Waarbij Knife zijn denderende geluid uit zijn zes snarige basgitaar
als muzikaal handelsmerk op de kaart zette. Mede dankzij de explosieve
frisse wind door ervaren rocker, zanger en gitarist Arnoud Holsboer, de
onverslijtbare topmuzikant en -zanger Alfons Haket die anno 1976 de band
al versterkte en uiteraard Harry Angeneind, drummer van de Long Tall Ernie
& The Shakers debuut single, achter het drumstel. De foto’s geven een
impressie van een knallend optreden waar iedereen vol genoegen aan terugdenkt
in afwachting van optredens die komen gaan, waarover binnenkort meer. Hank
The Knife blikt dankbaar en voldaan terug op zondag: “We komen overal graag,
kerel, maar natuurlijk blijft Arnhem als thuisbasis voor onze band wel

Hank The Knife & The Jets sound like in the glamrock years, when top
hits 'Guitar King' and 'Stan The Gunman' reached the highest regions of
the charts. reached. In which Knife established his thunderous sound from
his six-string bass guitar as a musical trademark. Partly thanks to the
explosive fresh wind of experienced rocker, singer and guitarist Arnoud
Holsboer, the indestructible top musician and singer Alfons Haket who already
reinforced the band in 1976 and of course Harry Angeneind, drummer of the
Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers debut single, behind the drum kit. The
photos give an impression of a smashing performance that everyone looks
back on fondly in anticipation of performances to come, about which more
soon. Hank The Knife looks back grateful and satisfied on Sunday: "We like
to come everywhere, dude, but of course Arnhem as home base for our band
remains very special." We know, even after more than four decades he still
makes you dance and makes you sing. Thanks to Atlanta's hospitality and

de verjaardag van onze – zeg maar gerust legendarische – bassist/gitarist/zanger/doordouwer
Alfons Haket, ook bekend als Alfie Muscles vanaf het begin van de Long
Tall Ernie & The Shakers jaren. Vanzelfsprekend wensen wij Alfons en
Janet een fantastische dag toe en proosten graag op nog vele rock ‘n’ roll
jaren te komen. Jullie weten trouwens dat we de jarige in Hank The Knife
& The Jets, waar hij sinds 1976 deel van uitmaakt, op 2 juli a.s. live
in Muziekcafé Atlanta in Arnhem kunnen zien en horen, v.a. circa
17.00 uur.

ARNHEMS MUZIEKCAFE ATLANTA
Voor Neerlands trots in rock
‘n’ roll én horden fans van veelal het eerste uur een thuiswedstrijd,
daarnaast voor ons allen een knallend optreden om naar uit te kijken. Zondag
2 juli treden onze guitar king met consorten aan v.a. circa 17.00 uur in
muziekcafé Atlanta in Arnhem aan het Staringplein 40. De toegang
is gratis en reken maar Hank, Arnoud, Alfie en Harry er naar uitkijken
om de tent te doen schudden op zijn grondvesten. Noteer de datum alvast
en laten we zeggen tot 2 juli in Atlanta!

For Dutch pride in rock 'n' roll and hordes
of fans from mostly the first hour a home game, besides that for all of
us a banging performance to look forward to. Sunday 2 July our guitar
king and consorts will perform from about 17.00 hours in Atlanta music
cafe in Arnhem at the Staringplein 40. Admission is free and count Hank,
Arnoud, Alfie and Harry are looking forward to shaking the place to its
foundations. Make a note of the date and let's say until July 2 in Atlanta!

GEFELICITEERD HANK!
Vandaag brengen we een toost
uit op ‘Guitar King’ Hank The Knife die een extra kaarsje uitblaast op
zijn verjaardagstaart. Onze sympathieke en goedlachse zes snarige basgitarist,
solo gitarist, componist en striptekenaar verjaart en wij wensen hem een
geweldige dag toe. Proost en gefeliciteerd Hank!

Here we raise a toast to 'Guitar King' Hank
The Knife, whose birthday was yesterday and who is blowing out an extra
candle on his birthday cake. Our affable and good-humored six string bass
guitarist, solo guitarist, composer and cartoonist is celebrating his birthday
and we wish him a great day. Cheers and congratulations Hank!

meer. Fred is begin 2022 opgestapt, Hank The Knife kwam er bij, maar is
inmiddels
in 2022 ook gestopt en werd dus een vervanger
gezocht...
60Four is no more.
Fred quit in early 2022, Hank The Knife joined, but has since also quit
in 2022 and so a replacement was sought....
