Early in 1972 I did make
my first solo recording with songs written by Arnie Treffers. I was 17
years old.
The single was labled with:
OGEN VRAGEN and JULIA, both in Dutch and released by Negram.
Arnie, Alan, Jan and Hank
of the Shakers did play in the orchestra!
This is a very fine site,
have much fun and success with it!
Arnie did do a lot in his
short life in the music and it's all timeless!
I will never forget him.

REPORT:
Vanaf het hoesje kijkt een
stelletje kroegtypes ons monter aan. Dit zijn Jofele Japie en de Beunhazen,
zangers van het 't Ernemse Volkslied uit 1983.
Het Ernhems Volkslied dus.
Arnhems levende rocklegende Henk Bruysten, beter bekend als Hank the Knife,
zat erachter. Uitvoerend muzikant Jofele Japie was Jaap Bosman, in die
tijd uitbater van Bruystens stamkroeg Atlanta aan de Hommelseweg.
Fotograaf Rens Plaschek
was een van de Beunhazen. "We waren gewoon een stelletje mafkezen. We hebben
het refrein in gezongen en mochten op het hoesje."
"We hebben het met een paar
kratten bier erbij in mijn studio opgenomen", herinnert Henk Bruysten zich.
De duizend exemplaren vlogen de deur uit. "Alle piraten draaiden het. Het
was een Arnhemse wereldhit."
Het lied wordt met een lekker
vet Arnhems accent gezongen. Als Bruysten probeert de tekst terug te halen,
twijfelt hij over de spelling. "Klarendals of Geitenkamps, daar zit nogal
verschil tussen."
In 1983 ontstond er een
relletje toen de single was uitgebracht. Leraar Duits D. de Haan claimde
dat hij het al in de jaren vijftig had geschreven onder de titel De zwerrevurs
van Ernum. Daarop bracht De Nieuwe Krant zijn versie ook uit op plaat.
Het wursje kost hier nog maar een kwertje.
Bruysten: "Hoe het precies
zat? Daar zijn de geleerden het niet over eens. Ik kende flarden van de
tekst van mijn vader. Ik heb er een lekkere beat achter gezet." En af en
toe een jolige kreet verzonnen. 'Ober poft u ook?', horen we iemand tussen
twee coupletten door vragen. 'Ja, alleen veur de kop', luidt het antwoord.
Bruysten is niet van plan
het nummer volgend jaar bij het 775-jarig bestaan van de stad opnieuw uit
te brengen. "Het was een eenmalige grap. Er zijn wel eens stemmen opgegaan
om er een rapversie van te maken, maar ik zou bij god niet weten hoe ik
dat moest doen."

The Ernhems Folk Song, in
other words. Arnhems living rock legend Henk Bruysten, better known as
Hank the Knife, was behind it. Performing musician Jofele Japie was Jaap
Bosman, at the time the manager of Bruysten's Bruystens' favourite pub
Atlanta on the Hommelseweg. Photographer Rens Plaschek was one of the Beunhazen.
"We were just a bunch of We were just a bunch of weirdos. We sang the chorus
and were allowed on the cover. cover." "We recorded it in my studio with
a couple of crates of beer on the side Henk Bruysten remembers. The thousand
copies flew out the door. "All the pirates played it. It was a world hit
in Arnhem. world hit." The song is sung with a nice fat Arnhem accent.
When Bruysten When Bruysten tries to recall the lyrics, he is unsure about
the spelling. "Klarendals or Geitenkamps, there's quite a difference between
them."
There was a riot in 1983
when the single was released. Teacher D. de Haan claimed that he had already
written it in the 1950s under the title under the title De zwerrevurs van

The Blue Band was een Arnhemse
groep, die slechts 1 LP gemaakt hebben. Ze traden veel op als voorprogramma
van Herman Brood & His Wild Romance.
Het bleek echter niet zo
goed te boteren met multinational Unilever, die diverse rechtszaken aanspande
over de groepsnaam en het beeldmerk. En ze ook wonnen.
Zo mocht de bandnaam niet
meer gebruikt worden en moesten de nog niet verkochte LP's vernietigd worden.
Waarna men er maar de brui aan gaf.
Slithering! snijdt nu niet
direct als een mes door de boter, maar er staat gewoon aangename pop/rock
op, met de gitaar als basis, zoals er die eind jaren 70/begin jaren 80
zoveel gemaakt werd.
Die lekker wegluistert,
maar ook niet heel bijzonder is.
Zanger H.J. Vox (Henk Vos)
heeft een intonatie die soms wat aan Bob Dylan doet denken.
The Flash is een lekker
openingsnummer (en single), Dynamite woman ook (met Jody Pijper op backings).
Verder heel aardige nummers als Lizards & Snakes, I Love You All The
Time, Orgy In The Commodore en het gewoon erg mooie Letter In The Sand
(enige song met piano als basis).
Nog wat namedropping: Geproduceerd
door Alfred F. Vandergarde (Alfred Lagarde), engineered by Robin Freeman
(welke niet in die jaren), backing vocals Jody Pijper en Martha Hollestelle.
H.J.Vox (ontwierp ook al
de hoes) is nu een bekend (strip)tekenaar, beeldend kunstenaar etc.

The Blue Band was an Arnhem-based
group, who made only 1 LP. They performed a lot as support act for Herman
Brood & His Wild Romance.
However, they did not get
along very well with multinational Unilever, which filed several lawsuits

Slithering! doesn't cut
through butter like a knife, but it does contain pleasant pop/rock, with

It's a nice listen, but
not really special.
Singer H.J. Vox (Henk Vos)
has an intonation that sometimes reminds of Bob Dylan.

Other very nice songs like Lizards & Snakes, I Love You All The Time,

bestond de groep nog niet zolang. In het begin van 1980 noemden zij zich
