Overigens is Stars on 45 gebaseerd op Alto Passion - Let's Do It In The 80's Great Hits, van een Canadese producer die begrijpelijk onbekend wilde blijven omdat dit illegaal is opgenomen zonder de oorspronkelijke uitvoerders te vergoeden en dat zou hem miljoenen kosten aan auteursrechten. Jaap Eggermont die eerder met Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers een medley produceerde nam dit opnieuw op met sessiemuzikanten omdat het toen nog verboden was de originele opnames te gebruiken (wat de Canadese producer deed).
De impact van deze medley was destijds enorm: het werd niet alleen in vele landen een nr.1-hit (het is waarschijnlijk de best verkochte single ooit van Nederlandse bodem) maar ontketende ook een medley-rage die toe vervelens toe uitgemolken werd.

By the way, Stars on 45 is based on Alto Passion - Let's Do It In The 80's Great Hits, by a Canadian producer who understandably wanted to remain unknown because this was recorded illegally without compensating the original performers and that would cost him millions in copyright. Jaap Eggermont who previously produced a medley with Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers re-recorded this with session musicians because it was then forbidden to use the original recordings (which the Canadian producer did). The impact of this medley was huge at the time: not only did it become a No. 1 hit in many countries (it is probably the best-selling single ever from Dutch soil) but also unleashed a medley-rage that was milked ad nauseam.

Producer Jaap Eggermont komt op het idee, om een medley van
Beatlessongs te maken. The eerste single werd de dag na John
Lennon's dood gereleased. Stars on 45 werd een geweldige hit.
Het schoot omhoog naar de eerste plaats in de USA en Neder-
land,  en in Engeland bereikte het de tweede plaats.
